While living in Sandy with my aunt and uncle we were able to get our fill of cable TV shows and watch all the shows we love. One show that Ryan really liked was Storage Wars, where bidders go to self-storage facilities that auction off abandoned storage units. While that would be fun to do that someday it's out of our budget right now. There's a similar show that Ryan likes called "Baggage Battles," where they action off the abandoned luggage that's been left at air ports. That is a little closer to our budget and would still be fun. Ryan looked into it and while we were in Davis County last month we decided to participate in something similar. We found that they had a public county auction at the TNT Auction House in SLC.
So, we decided to go and check it out and see if we could get anything cheap. We looked around for about an hour before the bidding started. They had a ton of stuff: computers, lap tops, strollers, jewelry, office supplies, tools, cars, vans, buses, etc.
We were really only interested in the smaller things and luckily they started aucitoning those first. By that time a lot more people had showed up. Ryan did our bidding for us. There were a few main items that Ryan and I were interested in. Ryan got to raise his card, but we didn't get anything because everyone kept bidding up out of our price range. I was a little surprised at how much people were paying for this used old stuff.
This was a new experience and it was fun to see Ryan doing some bidding and to see what it's like to go to an auction, but we probably won't be doing this again soon.
