Our Little Goober :9

So, for a long time now, we've been calling Jared "Goober." I don't know exactly how old he was when we started. Ryan came up with the name and it stuck. We were kind of wondering what the name really meant or if it meant anything, so we looked it up. We had to look in an urban dictionary to find the definition we wanted. But, here it is; we liked the second one best.

Our little Goober. =)

1. goober
basically a goober is just a kindhearted, rather oblivious goofball. it's term of endearment really. it comes from the ancient scottish verb "to goub", which has to do with doing a dance and smiling sheepishly while doing so, exposing the goubs in one's teeth.
2. goober
A term of endearment used in place of a person's real name; a nickmame. The first word that comes to mind when your baby starts to crawl, walk, talk. Used only in the most loving of ways with no negative connation at all. A loving nickname for someone who is pure, innocent, warms your heart and makes you smile.

Air Show and Fishing

This weekend, we had a lot of fun spending time with the Anderson's (Ryan's parents), Jacobs (my parents and two siblings), Beamans (my sister and her family), and Stitts (Ryan's adopted sister and niece).

The Air Show
On Saturday, we went to the air show while Tandalaya baby-sat, and it sure is a good thing we left Jared home, because it was a cold, rainy day. It wasn't rainy at first, so we were able to enjoy the air show just fine, except for the cold. Ryan and I had left our jackets home in Sandy because it was so warm when we left. While we were there Mark and Kris took good care of us and went and bought themselves two sweater souvenirs. Ryan and I were very grateful!

The show started out with some parachuters flying around in the sky.

After the chuters landed, we got to watch the Red Eagles fly. They did some pretty neat synchronized tricks and dives.

This is the Diamond Back getting ready to take off and then doing some crazy looking tumbles! There were 18 different performances and we didn't get to see them all, but what we did see was really neat.

Trying to stay warm, but enjoying the show.
The beginning of the show was pretty neat and I'm glad we got to go. When it started raining we moved our chairs underneath a pavilion and even used a tablecloth for a blanket and watched the show from there. After maybe a half hour or so after it started raining the show was put on hold. The pilots were "asking not to have to fly [those] conditions."

We decided to go look at the planes that were sitting out by the hangers. We went to this cargo plane, since it was the only one close by that you didn't have to stand in a line out in the rain to get inside. When we went in we found tons of people sitting and standing around just trying to get out of the rain. Luckily it was a really big air plane. While we were inside Ryan told me about some of the things inside the plane; luckily I had him there.

We ended up going back the next day to see some of the second half of the show, that we had missed from going home early Saturday. I'm glad we went back. Seeing the Thunderbird jet squadron was probably the highlight of the whole show.

At first, there were just four synchronized jets flying around, doing some pretty neat stunts, then there were six. The went for maybe a half an hour and we couldn't keep our eyes off the sky. It was fun and hopefully we can do it again sometime, but with better weather. =)

Pies
On Sunday and Monday, I got around to making a couple pies. I made us and the Jacobs a Apricot Pie, and I made the Beaman's a Peach-Blueberry Pie. Delicious!

Memorial Day
Memorial Day was Tandalaya's birthday, so before going anywhere, we opened presents with her.
Mid-morning, we went on a fishing-picnic trip. We went to Weber River to fish. Mark recommended it because that's where he used to fish with his brothers when he was young. It was a nice spot. While Ryan was scouting out a good fishing spot, I fed Jared and then left him with four trusty babysitters while I joined Ryan.

Tandalaya and Arri entertaining Jared,.. or is it the other way around. ;)
It was a beautiful day out and a great fishing spot. It was a good opportunity for everyone to relax.

This was our catch of the day. The water was kind of shallow, but we found some promising looking pools of water and even saw some fish jump, but this is all we caught. We were planning on doing catch and release, so we released it. ;)

We had fun spending time together and enjoying the scenery. Even though there was a train track right next to the river, it was very peaceful. One of the train engineers waved at us and Ryan nodded and waved his pole. It was kind of random, but funny. :) After fishing we went back to the picnic table and had Marks delicious grilled Koegel hotdogs. Yum! We had a fun time and Jared got his first tan. =)

Our Current-New-Temporary Home

This past Saturday, we packed up some of our things and moved in with my Aunt Maureen (my dad's older sister) and Uncle Jerry. So, we've been here in Sandy for six days now and they've been wonderful hosts. Ryan is on his fifth day of work at his new mechanical engineering internship at Edwards Lifesciences and it's been going really well. Edwards' is a medical equipment company that designs a variety of artificial heart valves. He's had to do quite a bit of training this week, which involves a lot of reading about different regulations and things. But, he just finished that yesterday and today he gets to actually start working on projects. Yay!

Staying at the Knapp's has been a fun experience. We have our own corner of the house basically to ourselves, but share the kitchen and other living areas. Aunt Maureen is a wonderful cook and has even taught many cooking classes throughout the state in her lifetime, so I think it's safe to say we've been well fed. ;) She continually reminds me that we're not guests, we're family, so we can use whatever we want in the house. So, we're feeling pretty at home and will be enjoying our stay until the end of August when the fall semester starts up again at BYU. =) These are some of the things we've been up to since we've started living here:

This is Ryan and Jared playing Tie-Tug-a-War, after church, in our room. The Crescent 10th ward was a very friendly and welcoming ward. It's a nice neighborhood and Ryan and I have found that there's a really nice tennis court just about a fourth a mile down the road. We went and played there yesterday. Also, the Knapp's have a small basketball court in their backyard. Ryan loves basketball, so we've been taking advantage of it. We just need to find a good place to fish and we'll be set. ;D

This is something I was looking forward to when we were getting ready to come here. I knew my Aunt Maureen had a Micky Mouse waffle iron, and I'd been looking forward to having some waffles with it and Monday morning, before Ryan went off for his first day of work, we had some waffles. =)

This is Jared's new fun thing: climbing stairs. He's never really had such big stairs to climb. There're stairs at Grandma and Grandpa Anderson's house, but he's just never given them a try before. He seems to only like climbing a stair or two before coming back down. But, he's one smart little boy!

This is another exciting thing for him: a big play room for nothing but toys and playing. This has definitely been Jared's favorite room. Usually when he's playing anywhere he has to keep look at me to make sure I'm still there close by, but whenever I set him on the floor in his play room he has so much fun looking at the different toys he forgets he even has a mommy.

We miss our friends and family in Provo, but we're closer now to the ones in Clearfield and Sunset, and much closer to our family in Sandy (my grandma and some aunts and uncles live in Sandy also). But, the Ryan, Luisa, and Jared Anderson family is as close as ever. =D

Little Kaydee

Today I finally got to go see my newest little niece, Kaydee Darlene Beaman. She's my sister, Jacque, and Justin's baby girl. She was born on May 22, Tuesday at 12:20pm: 8 lbs 8 oz, 21" long. I didn't get to see her as soon as I would've liked, with us being in Sandy and Ryan working. But, today my Aunt Maureen gave me a ride up to Clinton so I could see her. I was soo excited when I found out and it was a short drive to be able to go see baby Kaydee and sweet little Rachel (2), Jacque, and Justin. What a cute family they make!

Me and two day old Kaydee. =)

Portraits

We got our pictures done about two weeks ago at Sears Portrait Studio. They turned out pretty cute. We did a couple family ones this time, and some of just Jared. He had just taken a nap, so he was very happy and smiley, not that he isn't normally. =) In case anyone hasn't seen them yet, here is the link. Enjoy!

8 Months Old =D

Our little Goober is 8 months old, starting today, and he's grown so much. Now, he can crawl really well.

He can sit up all on his own. He can pull himself up and stand while holding on to things. He can eat small crunchy foods. He has two cute little baby teeth. He likes to play with his mom and dad. He huffs and puffs with excitement when he's playing with a toy he really likes. He gets bashful and turns away when anyone smiles at him. He still smiles and wiggles with excitement whenever he sees us come to his crib in the morning. He still hates to have his face cleaned. He can hardly hold still long enough for me to change his diaper.

He likes grabbing the vacuum while mom's trying to clean. He likes to play with everything that isn't really a toy.

He likes to make friends. He loves his family. He likes his baby food and to chew on his spoons. He likes to watch the TV when it's on. He likes crunching and biting and drooling and sucking.
But, most of all, he loves his mom and dad...

...And we love him like crazy. =)

ComcastCares Service Project

A couple weekends ago, Ryan, Jared, and I went to Utah Lake State Park to participate in the Comcast Cares community service project. It was a great way to spend the day out in the sun together, and make some friends. When we got there we signed in and were given our T-shirts.

There were some opening words from the Park Manager and the Comcast representative and then we were separated into the different areas of the park.

We went to the peninsula to help pick up the sticks that were every where, along with garbage. We worked for about four hours. There was a lot to rake and pick up, but it looked a lot better after we were done. We also shoveled any dirt that had gradually settled over on to the pavement in the pavilions or road; and we helped reposition and secure the cement road barricades in the parking spots. Jared just played in his stroller or napped. He got a t-shirts too. :)

He made some friends while we were getting some work done. One of the Comcast representative's kids thought Jared was really cute so they played with him 'til we left for lunch. Lunch was provided for everyone who helped; KFC and pizza.  It was good and we had a fun day!

Early Mother's Day Cake

If you haven't heard, Ryan and I like to celebrate holidays and events a little early. So, on May 2 I opened my mother's day presents. I got some cake decorating tips, pastry bags, confectionery comb, lettering cake frosting stamps, the Wilson 2012 yearbook, and some beautiful flowers. =)  Also, Ryan gave me a very sweet card, which I opened yesterday.

But, on May 2, after I opened my presents, we made a cake. I made a pound cake and then Ryan made some frosting.

I colored the frosting and helped Ryan put it in the bags. He did all the designing and decorating and made it look fancy. =)

It turned out really nice, and tasted pretty good too.
Yesterday, for Mother's Day, besides giving me a card, Ryan brought me breakfast in bed and we spent some time together as a family. It was a good day and it's been an amazing experience being a mother. =)
