Weight: 23 lb 6 oz
Length: 30.71"
For Karl’s first birthday we decided to go with an
under-the-sea theme. So, his cake was aqua blue and had an octopus on it; an
octopus because he’s out Little Squirt. He also got his own smaller smash-cake
to eat himself.
During the day Jared was happy to help with the birthday preparations.
He sprinkled some of the m&ms onto Karl’s cake and he did a lot of the
decorating on Karl’s birthday banner. He loves any opportunity to color with
markers!
When Daddy got home, we had dinner and then Karl got to open
his presents and look at his cards. Some of the things he got were bath toys,
books, a car hauler, and a lion walker. He had a lot of fun looking at all of
them.
He even was interested in the cards like they were little books to opens.
Before cake, we did his birthday-destiny-crawl I guess you
could call it. The objects we chose to set out were:
Book: literature, art, history
Calculator: math, science, engineering
Ball: sports, athletics, health
Piano: music, art, preforming
I pointed out each one and sat on one side of the room to help
encourage Karl to come to the objects. Ryan, sitting on the other side of the
room, released Karl. Karl first just crawled straight to me and sat on my lap.
Jared and I showed him each of the objects and Karl explored each for a few
seconds. After laying the objects back out for Karl to decide, he ended up
crawling right to the piano. So our interpretation is that he’ll explore his
options and have well-rounded interests, but in the end his talent and passion
will be with music, art, preforming, etc. We’ll see where life takes this
little guy, but for now he’s just our fun-loving, rolly-polly, Little Squirt.
Before going to bed, we had Karl blow out his candle, with
some help from Jared, and eat his cake. He really enjoyed his cake. It wasn’t
until I was cleaning up what was left of it that I realized how much of it he
had eaten. He ate a lot! This little guy definitely has a healthy appetite!
We’re so grateful for our sweet Baby Karl! He brings us so
much happiness every day! J
