Moving in at Starflower

Friday, January 8, 2016

The morning of our closing we woke up at the Best Western and left the two boys with Gramma Kris and the Wells. We took Emmaline with us and headed over to the real-estate office here in Holland for the closing on our house. I guess we left a little early, because on the way, Ryan took a little detour. It wasn't until we were driving into a random subdivision that I ask, "Where are we going?!" He didn't say a word, but drove up to the house, our house! And that is the very first time we saw it. It was so strange to think we'd be living there soon.

We then headed straight over the the office to make it official. Our realtor Dave, our mortgage agent Jonathan, and the title agent were there to meet with us. The sellers had decided to meet a different time in a separate meeting.

The meeting was maybe about an hour. I thought it was funny that the title agent kept calling me "Lisa." I thought, and so did everyone else, that it us just a mispronounce. But it turned out that they had changed my name to "Lisa" on the documents through some miscommunication. So, I had to sign a document saying that the closing and everything was still legal as "Lisa Anderson" and then second document signing that I really was going to be "Luisa"... or something along those lines.

Dave asked for us to tell Emmaline's birth story while we were waiting for copies to be made of all the paperwork. I'm finding it's easier (and very entertaining) to have Ryan tell the story, instead of me. The emotions are still a little fresh from that experience. Both Jonathan and Dave had nice little gifts to welcome us and give us a taste of the area. We had a good experience with the closing and they were all really nice people to work with.

Soon after getting back to the hotel, we all packed up and headed over to the house. We brought some pizza with us that the hotel receptionist was kind enough to buy for us. When we got to the house, Ryan and I took a step in and looked around the main floor and then we had everyone else come inside. We took a little bit of time to eat our pizza and look around the whole house together for the first time ever!
Then, Ryan started organizing the unpacking of the truck. He hadn't originally planned to unpack the whole thing, but everyone was working so hard and such a roll, that is was completely unpacked in just a couple hours; we ended up cancelling our plans with the Holland Ward to come help us the next morning.
After unpacking, the house looked crazy and there were boxes everywhere, but it felt so good to finally be here! Ryan worked on setting up the beds and then the TV and xbox.
We then had a relaxing evening eating some of Alisha's delicious slow-cooked corn chowder and watching a movie, in our NEW HOUSE!!
