Green Beans, Sweet Potatoes, and Carrots

Jared has been trying a new baby food every couple days and now he's a pro at eating baby food. The first time trying green beans he ate maybe five bites and then was done. It's hard to say if he really didn't like them or if it was just bad timing. With carrots, it was about the same. He ate more, but he held the first bite in his mouth for a few seconds deciding whether he wanted to swallow it or spit it out. He didn't mind the sweet potatoes at all. We're going to let him eat veggies for a couple more days and then let him try a fruit. If he's like his daddy, he'll love the banana's. :)

Kris and Mark were able to stop by for the night last weekend, on their way to see Aunt Connie. So, Jared got to have his first time being fed by Grandma Kris.

Four Month Check-up

So, today was Jared's four month appointment with Dr. Zollo. It went really good, and Jared behaved very well. He always likes to be held and played with anyway, so this didn't seem any different to him. He weighed 18lb 2.5oz. I had guessed 17.5lb and Ryan guessed 18lb. He's always closer. :P He was 26.5'' long; so, that put him in about the 90 or 95% for length and in the 95% for weight. He's a big boy; Ryan's lovingly given him the nickname "Jabba the Baby." :)

Jared's started having a couple new habits, besides sucking his thumb. He's never liked having his hands covered. Even when he was a newborn he wouldn't be able to fall asleep in a swaddle because he didn't like having his hands trapped. Now, he likes to sleep with his hands behind his head. It's pretty cute. :)

We've found that he loves to play with blankets around his head. Of course, we keep a close eye on him when he does.
He's gotten really good at putting things in his mouth.
He loves to talk while he's playing and sometimes starts yelling happily. There are times when we can't hear what we're watching, so we have to hold him so he'll play a little quieter.
And, he seems to love watching TV, not that we expose him to it too much.
He's our chunky little hunk of love. :)

Rice Cereal, Yum!

Jared had his first time with rice cereal yesterday evening. It was really pretty fun.

Ryan held him, while I fed him. Jared did really well. I think it was something we both had to get used to. With the first bite, I was a little worried. I put the food to his mouth and it just poured right out.

I asked Ryan, "How are we supposed to do this?" But, then I put the second bite to his mouth and he started sucking. I figured out that if I kept the spoon to his mouth, he'd suck on it and then be able to swallow his food. It's a handicap, but for it being his first time it helped.

Near the end, he kept wanting to grab my hand, as I held the spoon; that made things a little tricky because he's a strong little boy. So, I had to hold his hand with one hand and feed him with the other. He lost maybe half of his food to his bib and pajamas, but otherwise he ate really well. (Next time we'll feed him before we give him a bath. ;))

He'd go cross-eyed sometimes, from looking at the spoon. I thought it was pretty stinking cute!
