Ryan
decided not to compete with a team in the kickball tournament this year, so we
were able to just have a nice, free family day. The boys loved going to the
different bounce houses. There was really only one that Karl could do, so I
stayed with him to watch him play while Jared went around with Ryan. Karl and I also went over to this booth where
some Japanese people were teaching origami and doing shodou with ink brushes. I
asked one of them to teach me to make a frog. Then he gave me a pen to draw a
face on it. Jared loved the frog and basically
took it as a pet.
The shodou
was really cool to watch. It’s a little more complicated than origami, so they
just took requests. Ryan had mentioned that it’d be fun to get one that said “Anderson
Welcome,” so that’s what I asked her to write. She painted it out really nicely
with her ink brush of a roll of white paper in Japanese characters, and then
wrote the translation alongside it. It looked pretty.
They also
had free food, popcorn, and drinks while we were there, so we stopped to have
lunch. They boys also really liked the ball games; soccer, baseball, and football
throwing and kicking. They love to play with balls at home, so this was awesome
for them. Ryan and I got to try those ones too; so we won a few little balls to
take home.
Before
leaving we stopped to do some sand art. Jared got distracted and wanted to do
his own art in the real sand. :) Jared and
Ryan also decided to this one tricky bounce house game one more time before
leaving, where you bounce from platform to platform to get to the other side.
Jared kept falling off and would just run to the other side, but Ryan made it
all the way across. It was a much needed fun morning to play together, have
burgers and popcorn, and not have to pay for anything! ;D We had a great time!
Later, at
home, the boys finished their sand art. :)
