Thanksgiving in Indiana

Sunday-Tuesday, November 18-20, 2012

For the first half of our Thanksgiving break, we stayed with Ryan's older brother, Eric, and his family, Becky, Thomas (5), and Philip (Sup, 3). We arrived Saturday evening. It was exciting to see them again. Jared had a great time having two little boys to play with. Just driving from the terminal to the house, Jared was so excited to be sitting in back next to Sup.
The next morning, we were joined by Gramma and Papa, Ryan's parents Mark and Kris, who had flown/drove all the way from Germany. We all went to Eric and Becky's church with them, where Jared took a nice nap in Papa Mark's arms during sacrament. Later that day we had our Thankgiving dinner together. Becky made a delicious ham, Ryan's favorite. Kris brought some mini french breads (or as Ryan called them "football rolls") from Germany and baked them for us. It was all very good! I also made a pumpkin pie and a raspberry-apple pie.
Monday and Tuesday we got to spend playing and having fun together. Ryan played Halo with Eric and their dad. Jared had plenty of cars and dinosaurs and plenty of other boy toys he could play with. One of the days we were there, Ryan took Sup and Jared outside to play. Sup, unaware of where Jared was standing was swinging around a toy hockey-stick. Well, he accidentally hit Jared below his right eye. I guess Jared was a little surprised by it and cried a bit, but then he was distracted by Sup. Sup felt pretty bad about it, even though it was an accident. Ryan eventually got Sup to come and play with them again and everyone was okay. Jared's cut oozed a little bit, but it didn't seem to bother him.

One of the days Thomas had to go to school, but some of us, Mark, Ryan, Jared, and I, went to meet him at the bus stop where he was dropped off, so we could walk him home. When he saw us he asked us, "What are you doing here?"
When we got home we had some more fun playing out in the yard.

One of the things Mark did while we were there was help with Eric and Becky's project to fix up their master bath. The boys (including Ryan) had fun helping by jumping on the tile that came out of the bathroom, so it could be disposed of easier.

We had a great time in Indiana and were sad we couldn't stay longer. The last day we were there, Mark and Kris treated us all to a dinner at "the best Chinese restaurant in the whole world," or something like that; I can't remember exactly how Mark put it. It was very good.

Thomas loved wearing Ryan's hat and trying to fool us all into thinking he was Ryan. He even held Jared on his lap at the restaurant when I told him it was daddy's turn to hold the baby. Sup caught on and put on Eric's hat to convince us he was Eric. He even went over and gave Becky a kiss on the check. They even went so far as to pester their "dad" (Mark), very convincing.
We really had a great time seeing our nephews, and Eric and Becky, who don't get to see very often. Jared had fun having two boys more his size to play with, even if he did get a little bit of a black eye; and we had a great Thanksgiving dinner. Tuesday night, after we said good-bye and the boys went to bed, we headed out to go to Michigan.

Jared's First Airplane Ride

Saturday, November 17, 2012

For Thanksgiving break we flew from Salt Lake City to Detroit, then from Detroit to Evansville so we could spend some time with our relatives, the Andersons and the Wells, in Indiana and Michigan.
This was Jared's first time flying and we were curious to see how he'd do confined for such a long flight with another flight soon after. The flight from SLC to Detroit was about three hours, if I remember right, and Jared did pretty well. Ryan had a better experience than I did, I think. Jared played on my lap for about a half an hour, which can pretty tiring, and I fed him his sandwich. Then, he went to Ryan, who helped him fall asleep. They both then slept for about an hour or so. Jared woke up before the flight was over, but was calmer after just having a nap.
We waited at the terminal in Detroit for a few hours and had dinner. Jared was able to run around a bit and stretch his legs. His favorite place to be was at the fountain, playing with the water. After he had his fun and had gotten his cloths all wet, I changed him into his pajamas. Jared got hungry again before our flight to Evansville, so he ate the other half of his sandwich. Our flight to Evansville was a quick one-hour flight on a small plane. Jared sat pretty still while playing in each of our laps during that flight, so it was much more relaxing. We were also provided with more food and drink during this flight, which was nice. I think the day was something of an exciting experience for Jared, but just every once in a while is probably enough. He made friends easily, as babies do, while we were on each of the two flights and at each of the three terminals. We were definitely glad to have our little Goober with us for this trip. :)

Playing in the Snow

Wednesday, November 14, 2012

Thank you to those who've been encouraging me to start posting on our family blog again (Ryan and Mark). I know it's not only a great way to keep up with what each other are doing while we're so far away, but it's a good way to document the big and little things that go on in our little Anderson family; now and over the years it'll be fun to look back on.
These pictures are from the very first snow we received here in Provo. Jared wasn't quite old enough yet to have fun out in the snow last year (3 months old), so I wanted to make sure he had a good time this year.
He's always loved playing outside, but he had to be more patient with me this time as I bundled him up. He was very curious about all the snow and the icicles. He especially wanted to play with the snow that was on the chairs. He liked to take his stick and push the snow around. There were a couple times he picked up the snow and wanted to drink it. He's a fun, silly boy. He really wanted to stay outside, but after a while I could tell his hands were getting pretty cold, so I took him back inside. He wasn't too happy about that, but he seemed to appreciate it more once I took off is coat, hat, and shoes and wrapped him in a blanket.
By the way, thanks for the mittens Grandma Mary, it's much funner to play outside with those on now. :)
