Karl's Bottle

Wednesday, September 2, 2015

The thing I love about one-year-olds is that it's not hard to find something fun about almost anything. We usually have pop bottles around for refilling with juice or water and when they're empty Karl likes to play with them. He's pretty silly sometimes. I got a few pictures and videos of  him playing with them. They're pretty funny. :)

Two of his favorites are...

wack-a-bottle and...
wack-a-baby. :) Here are some short but funny videos of him doing both.

Transformer Day

For Jared's 4th birthday he decided he wanted it to be a Transformer's birthday. So, the night before, Ryan and I spent about an hour making him a transformer banner. Banners are a tradition for us to do every year. This year Jared knew is birthday was coming, he was just having a hard time remember which day it was supposed to come on. The last few days he kept asking Ryan and I, "Is it my birthday now?" We wanted his banner to be extra nice so he would see it in the morning and know for sure it was his birthday. So, we put is two favorite transformers on it. He loved it when he saw it in the morning!
For his cake he asked for a white cake; he picked this recipe out of my cookbook called Silver White Cake. I thought it sounded good but rather plain, so I also put orange marmalade for the middle layer and iced it with some orange flavored whipped frosting I'd made. I also made a spur of the moment decision to make a batch of chocolate truffles and I put those around the edge. You can't do a lot of decorating with whipped frosting, things dissolve easily, so I just put an Autobot symbol on top and sprinkles. I asked Jared it if was done and he said I needed to put more around the sides. So I did and he had fun eating any I accidentally dropped on the table.
For the evening we had invited a family from our subdivision/ward over for dinner. They have two little boys who Jared loves to play with. Jared picked for our dinner to have pizza. So we had that and some other things.
The boys played outside almost all night and only came in for dinner and cake. Though, after dinner I did get them to come back in to do face painting. I asked them whatever they wanted and Jared chose to be a green Master Chief, his friends chose to be a blue Master Chief and Iron Man, and I figured to do Captain America for Karl. They looked pretty cute!! ...I mean tough!
Before our friends left, we sang to Jared and he blew out his four candles!
After friends left, we opened presents with Jared and then got the boys ready for bed. One thing Jared got were these Avenger sheets for the new bunk-bed. Karl also got some TMNT sheets. So I remade their beds and they loved sleeping in their superhero bed.
It was pretty fun day and we're so happy to have a sweet little four-year-old to celebrate it for. He's very imaginative, creative, and determined in the things he does. He's so sweet and loving and we're blessed every day to have him around to brighten our hearts and give us things to learn and grow and laugh about. He's always reminding us to take time to stop and play. That has made all the difference to help us have a happy home. We love him so much! :)

Stain-glass Bird Paintings

This past month, I've been able to find a better way to manage time for painting, and it's been nice to get done some of the projects I've been wanting to do. These are some paintings that I did for my nieces and nephew of the birds they liked or what I guessed they would like.
This was a really fun project to work on and a great way to relax each day. There were several times that Jared came and painted his own pictures while I worked on mine. It was nice to have a little painting buddy. With these paintings, I was doing something of a stain-glass window style of painting. It was a fun way of painting.
I also got my brother to do a painting since I had one extra canvas with the pack I got. He decided to do a Superman symbol, something he's fairly fond of. He also decided to cut a sponge I gave him  into the SM symbol shape and use it to paint the background. It turned out pretty nice!
