Fourth of July

Saturday, July 4, 2015

The morning of Independence Day, the boys and I went to our wards breakfast at the church. After eating their pancakes, the boys wanted to go color in this corner of the gym the young women had set up with crayons and coloring pages. They both love coloring and pancakes, so it was a good morning. Since we were in no rush to get home, I let the boys have an unofficial play group with their friends. I asked Jared on the way out what they were playing and told me they were playing transformers. :)

Around three o'clock Ryan made it back to Houston; we were already getting anxious to see him but we knew we wouldn't get to quite yet. After having lunch with the young men and doing some unloading at the church and taking care of the ym, Ryan made it home at about five. We were all very excited to see him and he was thoroughly tackled by the boys for about five minutes.

The rest of the evening was rather busy for Ryan with vacuuming and washing the 15-passenger van that he rented. I was so amazed at how clean he got that big van after seeing how dirty it was inside and out when it arrived at our house. He worked really hard on it. We then dropped off the van to one of the other ym leaders so he could take it in to return it, and we visited with his family for a while.

It was late when we finally were home for the evening and Ryan was exhausted and still had a few more things to do, but he gave in and did fireworks with us when Jared asked him "Please, please, please!" The boys had a lot of fun stomping on poppers and playing with their sparklers.

This was Karl's first fireworks experience, since he was always in bed asleep the past times we've done fireworks. He just held his sparkler, stood completely still, and stared! Jared had picked us out some tanks and turtles for our fireworks this year, so we had fun lighting those. It was a fun day, and we were glad Ryan could be back to enjoy it with us!
