| Newly bricked flowerbed. |
This spring, Ryan and I went ahead and planted our fruit trees we'd been wanting to plant. Ryan ordered a huge pile of dirt and fertilizer, and we picked up some trees from a local store. We decided to get pear, red delicious, peach, fuji apple, plum, and sweet cherry.
We plotted out spots on one side of our yard, near the two trees we already had back there, to make a little orchard. Ryan dug the holes in the grass and hauled the dirt into our backyard with the wheel-barrel. We formed small mounds in the dirt and then planted each tree. It was quite the process and a lot of work for Ryan, but I'm glad he was able to get it all done in one day and have our trees nestled safely in the ground.
Since then, for the past three months, we've been watering, watching, and even praying a little for our trees. So far, unfortunately, our cherry, plum, fuji apple, and peach appear to be dead or dormant. The pear and red apple trees, though, have been growing and progressing beautifully! We have high hopes of eating some delicious pears and apples from our own backyard someday. :-)
